MAKEROOM turns Turf Projects into a collective workshop of endless making possibilities.
MakeRoom uses workshops, drop-in sessions, and open-access facilities to turn Turf into a shared exploratory studio. A cross between maker space, resource library, online video tutorial, swap shop & scrap store with materials, equipment & knowledge shared.
Do you have skills to share? Or do you want a testing space to try running a workshop? Maybe you want a chance to develop techniques or skills collaboratively. Collaborate with a collective? MakeRoom is an open platform for process showcasing making, experimenting, and playing. From December 2022 – April 2023, Croydon residents and visitors from further afield will be invited to play, potter & ponder. Together we’ll experiment, share skills, learn & expand processes, and trial open-access facilities to explore an unmet demand in the borough.
Turf has invited Resolve Collective, Ama Dodzro, Print Collective, Solo Wood Recycling, Fashion Meets Music, Heather Lawrence, Daisy Young, Rebecca Sainsot-Reynolds and Rosie Crane Eckmire to set up and/or run various facilities and workshops across Turf. Facilities in ceramics, wood working, furniture building, textiles, photography, and printing; will be available. Visit the gallery to read our library, attend workshops across our four floors, trial workshop memberships, order at-home kits from our website, and log in to online events.
This project will also host residencies for Studio Upstairs, Ruth Beale, Dust London, Bea & Jill, Kimberley Cookey-Gam, Lili Golmohammad, and Visually Impaired Artists’ Croydon Collective.
MakeRoom is generously funded by the Arts Council England.
MakeRoom will use workshops and open-access facilities to turn Turf into a shared exploratory studio for a limited time from Jan 14th-April 22nd.
You can get involved by signing up for a 3 month membership to take part in the project and use the facilities at Turf’s central Croydon space.
There are only 100 memberships available, so book your spot early to avoid disappointment.
If you’re 25 or under, you can get 60% off membership as part of the Croydon Creative Enterprise Zone under-25s scheme.
Use the booking link below – you’ll need to fill in a form at your first workshop as proof of age. Email us at info@turf-projects.com for details.
