// CURATOR’S TOUR 7pm

A tour led by Chris Alton, artist-curator of You’re Surrounded by Me. Alton will introduce the exhibition’s core themes, in relation to the practices of the exhibiting artists and his own research. Questions and conversation welcome.

// SEA SQUAD PERFORMANCE 8:30pm

A performance by Liam Geary Baulch’s Sea Squad, in which Geary Baulch and crew take on the molecular structure and (hypothetical) voice of the sea. The chants and dance routines performed by the Sea Squad are both a warning and a call to action. Rendered as invisible, but never-the-less encroaching; a danger undeniable to indigenous populations and those in the Global South; the sea is closing in.

// EXHIBITION CONTINUES 29 JULY – 9 SEPT

You’re Surrounded by Me considers that which surrounds us, yet frequently goes unnoticed. Bringing together new and recent work by 4 artists, this exhibition seeks to direct our attention into the corners of our eyes; alerting us to that which has been consigned to the periphery; rising sea levels, the proliferation of stock imagery, skeuomorphic fallacies, the atomisation of communities and the privatisation of the commons.

The artists featured in You’re Surrounded by Me seek to hone in on areas of incongruity and tension, instances where; appearances are deceptive, attention is misdirected and the information presented only serves to produce confusion.

Turf aims to be a space where all are welcomed & respected. We ask all attendees to align with this spirit when booking and support us in creating a welcoming & collaborative atmosphere together. We ask that everyone is;

  • Kind and respectful in our language and behaviour towards others. Turf is a space which is anti racism, sexism, homophobia and ableism.
  • Considerate of others’ time; allowing others room to speak & engage.
  • Respectful of the space itself as belonging to many people, treating the space & objects with care.
  • Attend wherever possible: In 2023, around 30% of people booking free tickets didn’t turn up! Our free tickets are limited and in high demand. Every person who doesn’t turn up means someone else can’t attend, so please let us know if you can’t make it to free up a space. If you don’t attend twice or more without letting us know, you may be restricted from booking again.
