Community spaces are more than just physical; they connect a history and a people with a center to congregate, facilitating care. But who really owns these spaces, and how are they being used? Are they being overtaken by unseen forces that impact their public benefit?

In collaboration with Turf, this project aimed to explore the potential of these sites through art. By bringing residents together through creative activities, we engaged both the dedicated community of Turf Projects, Croydon Urban Room and other publicly activated spaces within Croydon, positioning community at the forefront, and thriving together.

We hosted two artists’ talks in Turf’s project space, taking down notable quotes from our speakers that touched upon themes of land, community and a vision for the future. During our workshop with Croydon Urban Room, those who dropped into the workshop created collages using their archives, which were then combined into a communal zine. These collages were layered with the artists’ quotes to create the posters that we have installed at Turf’s Fungus Press sites as the conclusion to our project.
