Setting Up Spaces: “Where Do I Start?”

A talk, workshop + discussion with Natanya Mark, Co-director of F.A.T. Studio and Co-founder of Old Kent Road Arts Club.

@ Little Turf, Keeley Rd

In 2021 F.A.T. Studio opened the Old Kent Road Arts Club. A local resident described it as “a community arts club for a new generation. A space where local communities share local issues, aspirations and concerns through an art-led process.”  Come and hear about the past two years of OKR Arts Club, including how we set up and funded the space and how this was shaped by our approach to programming.

Are you thinking of setting up a project space? Do you want to talk through your ideas in a peer-support environment? Have you got challenges to bring to the table: space / funding / audiences? Do you want to hear about our journey? Come along!

The talk will be followed by a workshop + discussion that looks at the practicality of setting up spaces and sustainable approaches to artist-led spaces.

The event series ‘Setting Up Spaces’ aims to build skills & networks that leave communities better equipped to engage in decisions made about their locality & develop cultural opportunities within that.

  • Kind and respectful in our language and behaviour towards others. Turf is a space which is anti racism, sexism, homophobia and ableism.
  • Considerate of others’ time; allowing others room to speak & engage.
  • Respectful of the space itself as belonging to many people, treating the space & objects with care.
