‘Introduction to Trauma Informed Practice’: Online Workshop – Led by Jane Thakoordin

Join Jane Thakoordin, participatory artist and mental health professional, for a gentle introduction to Trauma Informed Practice.

Join Jane Thakoordin, participatory artist and mental health professional, for a gentle introduction to Trauma Informed Practice.

The session is aimed at people who work with groups of people as part of their arts practice. It will introduce an understanding of how trauma can impact theirs (and our) physical and emotional needs.

This 90 minute session aims to give you a better understanding of how people may externalise worries and feelings associated with trauma, and to equip yourself with the knowledge and skills to respond in a sensitive, safe and respectful way.

We will look at how we, as facilitators can ensure a safe and supportive creative space, working in collaboration with participants. To conclude, we will look at our own well being and develop a set of principles for self care and mutual support.

ABOUT JANE THAKOORDIN

Jane is a participatory artist which means that the work Jane creates is always in collaboration with others.

Jane draws on her professional experiences as a mental health practitioner to link creativity and wellbeing. She works collaboratively with, amongst others, people seeking asylum, supporting individuals and co-creating work. One of the highlights of the recent ‘Human kindness’ Project was radical kindness through gift creating that people seeking asylum were an essential part of.

Jane is a founder/member of MIXED RAGE collective of artists of mixed heritages, who recently exhibited at MAC in Birmingham. A recipient of a THRIVE Research bursary, Jane is currently working with Universities and Youth projects to interrogate the language of mental health and wellbeing, using textiles and zine making as methods of engagement.

Turf aims to be a space where all are welcomed & respected. We ask all attendees to align with this spirit when booking and support us in creating a welcoming & collaborative atmosphere together. We ask that everyone is;

  • Kind and respectful in our language and behaviour towards others. Turf is a space which is anti racism, sexism, homophobia and ableism.
  • Considerate of others’ time; allowing others room to speak & engage.
  • Respectful of the space itself as belonging to many people, treating the space & objects with care.
  • Attend wherever possible: In 2023, around 30% of people booking free tickets didn’t turn up! Our free tickets are limited and in high demand. Every person who doesn’t turn up means someone else can’t attend, so please let us know if you can’t make it to free up a space. If you don’t attend twice or more without letting us know, you may be restricted from booking again.
