// ONLINE EVENT
BOOK>
Taking place at the end of each month, our free feedback sessions are a chance to get feedback on your work from a practicing artist in a supportive and friendly environment. All kinds of creative work are welcome.
Our first feedback session of 2021 will be led by artist Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley. This workshop is free to attend and open to all, but we particularly welcome black trans artists, creatives, and makers.
For this online session, we will be using video calling platform Zoom. It is possible to take part with or without setting up an account, and we will send instructions for joining ahead of the day.
Booking is essential, as spaces are limited. There are five slots available for showing work, but all are welcome to join in the discussion. For those showing work, please send through images or links you would like to share to: holly@turf-projects.com by Wednesday 6 January 2021.
ABOUT DANIELLE BRATHWAITE-SHIRLEY //
Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley is an artist working predominantly in digital media to communicate the experiences of being a Black Trans person. Their practice focuses on recording the lives of Black Trans people, intertwining lived experience with fiction to imaginatively retell Trans stories. Spurred on by a desire to record the “History of Trans people both living and past” their work can often be seen as a Trans archive where Black Trans people are stored for the future.
Throughout history, Black queer and Trans people have been erased from the archives. Because of this it is necessary not only to archive our existence, but also the many creative narratives we have used and continue to use to share our experiences.
Danielle’s work has been shown in Focal Point, Science Gallery, MU, Barbican, Tate, Les Urbains as well as being part of the BBZ Alternative Graduate Show at the Copeland Gallery.
An online component of their work can often be found at daniellebrathwaiteshirley.com
