Join us for a workshop taking an interactive look at the history of public and private space, focusing on Croydon and its open spaces. Led by historian Katrina Navikas, it will tackle questions about regeneration, gentrification and the role of the arts. We will use maps and copies of archive material to produce creative responses to the issues, so come ready to get stuck in.
The event series Setting Up Spaces aims to build skills & networks that leave communities better equipped to engage in decisions made about their locality & develop cultural opportunities within that.
Katrina Navickas is a resident of Croydon, and is Professor in History at the University of Hertfordshire. She is a historian of protest and public space in England. She has written the Croydon chapter in ‘An Alternative Guide to London Boroughs’, edited by Owen Hatherley for Open House London, and a Pocket Tour of Croydon for Open City London.
