Join us to celebrate the closing of Turf’s latest exhibition Tending in a gathering focusing on listening to the artworks before they leave the gallery. This Closing Gathering will give you moments to immerse yourself in the exhibition, with:
- 2-3pm: Gathering Space: join in a final moment with the artworks, with snacks and refreshments available
- 3-4pm: Listening Space: Listen to a radio interruption, made by the artists, tuning into the more-than-human sounds of Croydon. ‘Tending Transmissions‘ is an audio intervention, drawing sonic attention to reflecting, dreaming and resting to the listener. Take a moment to put down your shopping bags and pay attention to the unheard beings that occupy the airwaves.
Emerging in Spring, Tending culminates in the Summer, the day before the Solstice. Having grown roots planted in At the Meadow’s Edge, it invites reflection on how we notice, care for and relate to each other and our environment. Artworks awaken the senses, shared alongside spaces for rest and reflection. Join us in cultivating attentive and sensory explorations as being present and curious in moving through the world.
Paintings of mangroves encourage resilient reflections, sonic sculptures translate sound into matter and tactile talismans invite forms of engagement rooted in curiosity and care. Boundaries are softened as works contaminate one another and ourselves, carrying new knowledge from the gallery space out into the world.
Spaces for reading, reflection and dreaming offer moments of rest in a shared environment; pauses intended not as a retreat from the world, but as methods to stay in it. To listen deeply, sense intentionally and dream collectively.
Tending invites you to consider how moving through the world can be nurtured through reclaiming our attention and being in our humanness.

Turf aims to be a space where all are welcomed & respected. We ask all attendees to align with this spirit when booking and support us in creating a welcoming & collaborative atmosphere together. We ask that everyone is;
- Kind and respectful in our language and behaviour towards others. Turf is a space which is anti racism, sexism, homophobia and ableism.
- Considerate of others’ time; allowing others room to speak & engage.
- Respectful of the space itself as belonging to many people, treating the space & objects with care.
- In 2023, around 30% of people booking free tickets didn’t turn up! Our free tickets are limited and in high demand. Every person who doesn’t turn up means someone else can’t attend, so please let us know if you can’t make it to free up a space. If you don’t attend twice or more without letting us know, you may be restricted from booking again.
