FAMILY ART FUN DAY: Draw Over, See Through!

Sat 4 Nov 12-2pm // At Turf, Lower Level Trinity Court, 46-47, Whitgift Centre

Free + open to all

Make your mark on see-through surfaces that you’d never usually draw on!

In this artist-led workshop, you’ll use transparent materials like plastic and glass to explore buildings, people and objects around you, drawing shapes and patterns on top of what you can see – just like ‘Peaks & Troughs’ artist Saelia Aparicio. Take home see-through artworks you can peep through, hide under, and layer up.

Ray Green (a magic plastic demonstrator at Hamley’s) will be on hand to lead us through making their own magic plastic sculptures – making our own versions of the mouth-blown glass sculptures in Saelia’s exhibition. We’ll also be using chalk markers to draw on the gallery’s own windows!

This workshop is most suitable for ages 5+, but all are welcome to come and have a go.

Spaces in our workshops are limited and in high demand, so make sure to book a free ticket in advance. Our tickets are booked per child with accompanying adult included.

Sponsored by Magic Plastic and POSCA Chalk Markers, who have generously provided us with some of their products for this free workshop.

WORKSHOP CODE:

Turf aims to be a space where all are welcomed & respected. We ask all attendees to align with this spirit when booking and support us in creating a welcoming & collaborative atmosphere together. We ask that everyone is;

  • Kind and respectful in our language and behaviour towards others. Turf is a space which is anti racism, sexism, homophobia and ableism.
  • Considerate of others’ time; allowing others room to speak & engage.
  • Respectful of the space itself as belonging to many people, treating the space & objects with care.
  • Attend wherever possible: In 2023, around 30% of people booking free tickets didn’t turn up! Our free tickets are limited and in high demand. Every person who doesn’t turn up means someone else can’t attend, so please let us know if you can’t make it to free up a space. If you don’t attend twice or more without letting us know, you may be restricted from booking again.
