We’re seeking a General Assistant to work with us on Saturdays. You’d be greeting visitors, providing Saturday workshop support and assisting with basic admin tasks in between.

Pay & terms

  • Contract: 12 months on a freelance basis, with a review at 4 months. 
  • Pay: £656 per month, delivered over 4 days per month.
  • Hours: Saturdays, 9.30-5.30pm
  • Location of work: At Turf Projects in Croydon, with some remote working possible.
  • Application Deadline: midnight 15th July 2023
  • Interviews: Week of 24th July 2023 
  • Start date: August 2023 (date tbc), starting with training.

Person specification

The essentials:

  • Friendly, confident and communicative in greeting visitors
  • Keen knowledge of contemporary art & creative practices
  • A positive, calm and proactive approach
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, flexibly, and problem solve creatively
  • Turf is run by a team of local artists and creatives; strong connections to Croydon and knowledge of the borough are important to what we do as a central aspect of Turf’s identity.

Desirable:

  • Creative skills like design skills, knowledge of Adobe suite, photography and/or videography skills would be useful in documenting our events and workshops.

Responsibilities

This role is a front-of-house role primarily greeting and informing visitors to Turf, assisting with the delivery of workshops (signposting visitors, documenting), and assisting with basic admin duties in between.

  • Front of house;
      • Meet, greet and signpost visitors at Turf Projects, providing a warm welcome to all
      • Be familiar with our exhibition and events programme, able to inform and answer visitors’ questions
  • Events:
      • Help with setting up space for events as required
      • Assist with event photography & photo editing
      • At events encourage & process donations from visitors, and occasionally process cash sales for Turf’s small shop. For this you’ll just need to be competent with basic cash handling and recording – training will be provided.
  • Admin:
    • Ensure the collection of & processing visitor data & feedback
    • Keep our front of house leaflets stocked
    • Update our archive folder & directory
    • Respond to emails, and telephone enquires in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to Turf Projects’ policies.
  • Attending training & quarterly reviews as necessary.
