Help support Turf to find a permanent home...
… join our ‘Permaculture’ advisory committee!
Application deadline: ongoing basis
We’re setting up our Permaculture advisory committee to support our team in progressing our plans towards a permanent space for Turf over the next few years.
We want your help to keep us on track and to push together in solidarity for a stable home for culture in Croydon.
The ideal scenario we’re working towards is the purchase and/or build of a space in Croydon, owned freehold. We’re also keen on the idea of bringing historic or locally significant spaces back into use.
You might have the experience in property, finance or legalities to help us, but equally you may just be a person who cares about what happens in Croydon.
Our piece of writing All The Spaces We’ve Never Used: Place & Power in Croydon gives a bit of insight into our journey so far and the challenges & opportunities we might face.
The Permaculture advisory committee works in parallel to our board of trustees, who oversee Turf’s management, development and long-term sustainability, leading the charity in fulfilling our aims and values.
About Turf
Turf Projects was founded by a group of creatives with personal connections to the borough of Croydon, and many of its board and committee members share this collective interest and background.
From our space in Croydon’s Whitgift Shopping Centre, we put on exhibitions & workshops showcasing both local & national artists, provide artists with opportunities, space & resources & host collectives. Our programme has a focus on themes of space & place.
A registered charity, we aim to provide opportunities for creatives who may otherwise be under-supported and for the public to be able to access & get involved in art at any stage of life. Turf aims to show that arts organisations can be locally led and focused whilst still being nationally relevant.
As a member of the advisory committee of Turf Projects you would:
- Attend quarterly space development meetings, supporting the progress of these plans with your knowledge and experience, and delivering on one key action inbetween.
- Attend at least some of our annual review workshops in early Autumn each year.
- Be on hand to support our team with advisory input via email.
- Undertake one volunteering day at Turf as part of onboarding where possible. This is to help advisory members understand our visitors and how our space works.
- Be an advocate for Turf’s permanent home: actively seeking opportunities to help us find, fund and plan a permanent space;
- Think creatively and bring a critical voice to discussions, advising and encouraging new relationships and ways of working.
Term: We ask advisory board members to be able to commit to the advisory board for at least 1 year.
Pay: As with most trustee roles, this role is a voluntary position, but we have a stipend of £250 per member to cover expenses.
Hours: The role works out at approximately a day of work per month, mostly ad-hoc, though there can be slightly more or less at different periods throughout the year. You’d need to be able to attend a minimum of 4 advisory board meetings per year.
Please send your application to board@turf-projects.com
We’re very flexible on how you apply. You could;
- Email us for a chat.
- Email us a CV & cover letter.
- Send us a video intro to you and why you’re interested.
- Another format!
We don’t have a format we prefer, and your format won’t impact our consideration, so send whatever you’re comfortable with.
We welcome applications from people of any background, and particularly welcome applications from those who represent those Turf regularly work with; from backgrounds underrepresented in the arts, who identify as having a disability, and those from Croydon.
Turf Projects is committed to equality and diversity in recruitment. Please let us know if you’d like this information in an alternative format.
