Turf is the first entirely artist-run contemporary art space in Croydon, founded in 2013 by Croydon locals. A registered charity, we’ve supported the work of over 400 artists to date through a programme of free exhibitions, workshops & events. We also run two collectives (MOSS: a collective of local learning disabled artists and Art Press: a collective of local young artists), a support & residency programme for Croydon School of Art students, family workshops, a youth programme, projects with local schools & more.
You can also donate by dropping into the gallery when we’re open where we’ll be happy to help. We value all support, no matter how small.

// WHAT WE DID IN 2019
(aka where your donation ends up!)
➮ We put on 7 exhibitions, which over 4000 people came to see for free. ➮ Over 1400 people attended our free workshops. ➮ We supported over 50 artistswith paid opportunities, through commissions for new work and workshops, working primarily with artists on low incomes. ➮ We ran 3 terms of weekly workshops with MOSS, 1 MOSS artist solo exhibition, facilitated 3 individual artist projects, 1 workshop led by a MOSS artist and two firsts – a group artist residency at Cherry Orchard Centre and a regular client commissioning MOSS to produce a mural and collaborative design for an event. ➮ We worked with over 600 children & young people directly through our family, schools & youth programmes, including Family Art Fun Day workshops, and monthly Saturday sessions with Art Press, Turf’s collective of local artists aged 14-21, and their group exhibition People of the Pizza (Dominos Please Sponsor Us). ➮ We worked with 5 local community organisations to offer workshops, work experience placements, and priority workshop and project spaces to those most in need. ➮ We hosted the fourth Turf x Croydon School of Art residency exclusive to Croydon School of Art Graduates. Henrique Paris completed the residency with culminating exhibition Home is where the body isn’t. ➮ We worked with 8 local schools on projects and to provide work experience ➮ We continued to offer our affordable studio membership to 20+ artists & makers with 100% uptake by South London artists.
