MakeRoom Public Showcase

Join us from 2-5pm on the 15th of April 2023 to celebrate the Public Showcase of Turf's ‘MakeRoom’ Project!

Join us from 2-5pm on the 15th of April 2023 to celebrate the Public Showcase of Turf’s ‘MakeRoom’ Project, showcasing maker facilities across Turf, and the items and ideas formed in these workshops! From January to April Turf has been transformed into a maker space for Croydon locals to try out new crafts, activities and techniques. We’ll also be launching a new limited edition by Resolve Collective and handmade tables by Rebecca Sainsot-Reynolds in collaboration with Turf Studio Artists. From 3-5pm the Club Soda DJ’s will perform one of their infamous DJ sets at Turf on the Ground Floor.

‘MakeRoom’ turns Turf Projects into a collective workshop of endless making possibilities. MakeRoom uses workshops, drop-in sessions, and open-access facilities to turn Turf into a shared exploratory studio. A cross between maker space, resource library, online video tutorial, swap shop & scrap store with materials, equipment & knowledge shared. Croydon residents and visitors from further afield have been invited to play, potter & ponder. Together we’ll experiment, share skills, learn & expand processes, and trial open-access facilities to explore an unmet demand in the borough.

Turf has invited Resolve Collective, Ama Dodzro, Print Collective, Solo Wood Recycling, Fashion Meets Music, Heather Lawrence, Daisy Young, Rebecca Sainsot-Reynolds and Rosie Crane Eckmire to set up and/or run various facilities and workshops across Turf. Facilities in ceramics, wood working, furniture building, textiles, photography, and printing; will be available. Visit the gallery to read our library, attend workshops across our four floors, trial workshop memberships, order at-home kits from our website, and log in to online events.

WORKSHOP CODE:

Turf aims to be a space where all are welcomed & respected. We ask all attendees to align with this spirit when booking and support us in creating a welcoming & collaborative atmosphere together. We ask that everyone is;

  • Kind and respectful in our language and behaviour towards others. Turf is a space which is anti racism, sexism, homophobia and ableism.
  • Considerate of others’ time; allowing others room to speak & engage.
  • Respectful of the space itself as belonging to many people, treating the space & objects with care.
  • Attend wherever possible: In 2023, around 30% of people booking free tickets didn’t turn up! Our free tickets are limited and in high demand. Every person who doesn’t turn up means someone else can’t attend, so please let us know if you can’t make it to free up a space. If you don’t attend twice or more without letting us know, you may be restricted from booking again.
