“Desire paths are where the grass is worn thin between the places we find ourselves and the places we would like to be […] They are the paths we would like to be true and paths that eventually become true, slowly eroded by our will. ~ ‘Empire of Seeds’, Ruby Tandoh
“There is no logic that can be superimposed on the city; people make it, and it is to them … that we must fit our plans.” ~ ‘Desire paths: the illicit trails that defy the urban planners’
Join us for a symposium marking the beginnings of Turf’s latest project ‘Desire Paths’.
As part of London Borough of Culture 2023, nine locally connected artists and groups have been commissioned by Turf to create new work responding to the empty & disused spaces around our hometown of Croydon.
From August until November 2023, each ‘Desire Paths’ commission will involve a process of co-creation between artists and the public in spaces around the borough, exploring how communities could forge their own paths in determining how Croydon’s spaces are used.
Come along to meet the artists, hear about the projects and how you can get involved, chat over lunch and join a discussion about collaborative futures for Croydon’s spaces.
Lunch will be provided by Turf. Booking is essential and you may be asked to provide your booking confirmation at the event.
