Part-Time Vacancy // Head of Public Realm Projects
Turf Projects – an artist-led charity, gallery and creative workspace – is seeking a public realm arts professional to join the team in Croydon. You’ll work with the Head of Marketing & Communications, the Director and the Board of Trustees to curate projects in the public realm. Fungus Press is Turf Projects’ public art commission that produces text-based artwork across several sites in Croydon. Strong connections to Croydon and knowledge of the borough are a must.

◘ Previous curatorial experience
◘ Adept at installing artworks indoors and outdoors
◘ Ability to use Adobe Creative packages proficiently (in particular InDesign and Photoshop)
◘ Strong connections to Croydon and knowledge of the borough are important to us, as a central aspect of Turf’s identity
◘ Producing and maintaining a regular schedule of commissions; producing an overall vision for the programme. This will be based upon your own research interests and ideas for exploring Croydon in a critical manner.
◘ Identifying areas and interests for individual funding; exploring ways to expand the scope of the project to new sites across Croydon – through new or exisiting contacts. This may include the commissioning of physical structures, in line with previous sculptural commissions.
◘ Researching artists, designers, groups and other practitioners to produce original artwork; making contact for commissions.
◘ Maintaining good relations with all stakeholders (parks, local council, community groups, the general public)
◘ The timely installation of artworks across the sites and ensuring the maintenance of the physical structures.
◘ In conjunction with Head of Marketing to: Organise publicity materials (documentation, text) in relation to each commission for print and website; produce other occasional materials, e.g. call-outs in local press; producing a way-finding publication or map.
◘ Establishing and maintaining links with similar public art projects; potentially forming partnerships
◘ Designing a Fungus Press fabric patch
◘ Attending quarterly Board of Trustee meetings
◘ 5 month fixed term, on self-employed / freelance basis
◘ £126 day rate, 2 days a month
◘ Start date Thursday 4 October 2018
