Part-Time Vacancy // Head of Community and Accessibility
Turf Projects – an artist-led charity, gallery and creative workspace – is seeking a Community & Accessibility professional to join the team in Croydon. You’ll work with the Head of Education, Head of Marketing & Communications, the Director and the Board of Trustees to lead our community & accessibility programming. The successful candidate will be running our Makers of Stuff Squad (MOSS) programme & leading on ensuring the accessibility of our exhibitions & events. Strong connections to Croydon and knowledge of the borough are a must.

◘ Experience of working with disadvantaged and vulnerable participants
◘ Ability to deliver an exciting, stimulating creative programme whilst ensuring the safety of vulnerable participants. Ideally the candidate would already have had some relevant safeguarding training.
◘ Experience managing volunteers and support staff
◘ Creative approach to programming and artistic ability to provide workshops which assist in fostering MOSS members’ independent art practices
◘ Experience in researching and applying for funding
◘ Strong connections to Croydon and knowledge of the borough are important to us, as a central aspect of Turf’s identity
◘ Planning & delivery of weekly art workshops for Makers of Stuff Squad (MOSS), a collective of adult artists living with learning disabilities, on Wednesday evenings. The sessions run from 4pm – 6pm at Turf’s space in the Whitgift Centre and run as 3 x 10 week terms per year.
◘ Planning & delivery of termly exhibitions & planning workshops with MOSS members, and adapting the programme in line with these planning sessions
◘ Facilitation of relevant trips and events for the group
◘ Recruiting, training and managing a team of regular MOSS support staff and volunteers
◘ Documenting MOSS workshops, promoting the group’s work & the support from our partners, working collaboratively with the Head of Marketing & Communications.
◘ Continuing to develop links forged with disability groups and communities in Croydon
◘ Increasing participation of members in MOSS group
◘ Applying for relevant funding to ensure future sustainability of Makers of Stuff Squad and accessibility, and subsequently evaluate and create reports for funders of MOSS programme
◘ Working with accessibility consultants to improve access to Turf’s exhibitions and events, and online presence to ensure Turf provides maximized provision for visitors with different needs
◘ Attending training as necessary
◘ Attending quarterly Board of Trustee meetings
◘ 6 month fixed term, on self-employed / freelance basis
◘ £126 day rate, 1 day a week
◘ Start date Wednesday 7 February 2018
